In 2007 Berkley Re Australia began accepting inwards reinsurance business, specialising in Casualty Facultative and Treaty business from the Australian, New Zealand and Pacific Islands markets. Since then our risk appetite continues to evolve responding to purchasing trends, market shifts and development of our own internal expertise, but we remain a specialist and niche reinsurance partner providing bespoke reinsurance solutions directly to buyers or via their intermediaries. Our focus is to build long term partnerships that develop into mutually sustainable relationships. With access to our W. R. Berkley colleagues across the globe we are able to share insights into overseas changes in our industry and work with you to gauge their impact locally.
Our Berkley Re team in Australia was originally formed around a group of highly experienced and seasoned underwriters. Over time the team has grown with the addition of broader skills and expanding the capabilities of the team across the many disciplines needed in a modern reinsurance business. Today we have a well-connected team of actuaries, underwriters, claims and finance people working together to deliver the Berkley promise to our reinsurance partners. Our autonomous, decentralised structure further allows us to operate outside the bureaucratic channels that often constrain our market competitors.
We are committed to “acting local, thinking global.” Our branch network operates out of Sydney and Brisbane, with locally empowered underwriters operating in each marketplace.
We carry the experience to conduct business across all the main general insurance classes as well as having the ability to look outside the box at specialist niche products and offer our experience in these new product areas. We are dedicated to finding solutions for our clients needs.
